Find the Right Engineering College for Your Career
Engineering remains one of the most sought-after choices for students after Class 12 science, but the route into a BTech programme isn’t the same for everyone. Some engineering colleges admit through JEE Main, others through state-level counselling, and a number of private universities run their own entrance test or admit directly through counselling. Shamar Group of Institutions’s engineering admission consultancy helps students understand which route actually applies to their target colleges, so they don’t waste time preparing for the wrong process.

Admission Criteria for Engineering Colleges in India
Admission requirements for engineering colleges in India can vary depending on the college, university, state, and engineering branch. However, most B.E./B.Tech. admissions generally follow these criteria:
Required Subjects
Physics and Mathematics are generally required, along with a third relevant subject such as Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, or a technical/vocational subject.
Minimum Marks
Many institutions require a minimum percentage in the qualifying examination. The exact requirement may differ by institution and category.
Entrance Examination
Admission may be based on entrance exams such as JEE Main, state-level entrance examinations, or university-specific entrance tests. JEE Main is used for admission to participating NITs, IIITs and other institutions.
Merit-Based Admission
Some private universities and colleges also offer admission based on Class 12 marks or their own admission criteria.
Counselling & Seat Allotment
Eligible candidates may need to participate in centralized or state-level counselling, depending on the institution and admission route.
Lateral Entry
Diploma holders may be eligible for admission directly to the second year of B.E./B.Tech., subject to applicable rules and vacancies.
Engineering Entrance Exams After Class 12
Students aspiring to pursue B.E. or B.Tech. can appear for national, state-level, or university-specific entrance examinations. JEE Main is one of the major entrance exams for engineering admissions, while many states and universities conduct their own entrance tests.
Choosing the right entrance exam depends on the college, state, course, and admission requirements. Students should check eligibility and exam schedules before applying.

Engineering offers diverse career opportunities across technology, construction, manufacturing, infrastructure, electronics, energy, and other industries. Graduates can work as Software Engineers, Civil Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Data Scientists, AI/ML Engineers, and more.
Students can also explore government jobs, higher studies, research, management, entrepreneurship, and emerging fields such as AI, robotics, cybersecurity, renewable energy, and electric vehicles.
Specialisations we guide students through
Our engineering college counselling starts with understanding a student’s marks, interests and preferred specialisation, before shortlisting colleges that genuinely fit. We support BTech college admission across a wide range of engineering colleges in India, and help students compare options on fees, faculty, placement record and location rather than reputation alone.
- Computer Science Engineering admission — for students interested in software, coding and IT careers
- Civil Engineering admission — for those drawn to construction, infrastructure and design
- Electrical Engineering admission — covering power systems, electronics and related fields
- ECE admission (Electronics & Communication Engineering) — for students interested in electronics, telecom and embedded systems
